Stage-II Qualifying Test (Net Speed โฅ 35 WPM English / โฅ 30 WPM Hindi ยท 50 Marks Scale with 20 Marks Pass Cutoff)
The EMRS Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) Stage-II Typewriting Test is conducted on a Personal Computer (PC) and is strictly qualifying in nature. In the official NESTS advertisement, the typing test carries 50 marks with a minimum passing requirement of 20 marks (40%). Candidates are called in a 1:3 ratio based on their Stage-I Written Exam performance (130 marks). In actual evaluation, clearing the minimum speed benchmark (35 Net WPM in English or 30 Net WPM in Hindi) earns qualification. The official notification contains no statutory percentage error ceiling (such as 7% or 10%); rather, mistakes directly penalize net speed. Crucially, marks obtained in the typing test are NOT added to the final selection merit list โ your final rank and appointment depend entirely on your Stage-I Written Examination score.
Candidates must achieve a minimum qualifying speed of 35 words per minute (WPM) in English or 30 WPM in Hindi on a computer over a 10-minute test duration. This corresponds to 10,500 Key Depressions Per Hour (KDPH) for English and 9,000 KDPH for Hindi, calculated at 5 key depressions per word.
No. The typing test is strictly qualifying in nature. The 50-mark scale with a 20-mark (40%) pass cutoff is an internal qualification threshold to confirm clerical competence. Zero marks from Stage-II are added to the final merit list. Your final selection is based 100% on the marks scored in the Stage-I written examination (out of 130 marks).
No. Stage-II is exclusively a Typewriting Test on a Personal Computer. There is no practical MS Excel, MS Word, or PowerPoint test in Stage-II. Basic Computer Knowledge was already tested as an objective multiple-choice section (30 marks) in the Stage-I written exam.
Yes, backspace is allowed during the EMRS JSA typing test. The exam is held in a screen-to-screen format where the passage appears on the computer screen and you type in the editor below. You can use backspace freely to correct errors.
Unlike SSC exams, the official EMRS (NESTS) notification does not specify a separate percentage error ceiling (such as 7% or 10%). Qualification is determined strictly by achieving the qualifying Net Speed of 35 WPM in English (or 30 WPM in Hindi) on the 50-mark scale (minimum 20 marks to pass). However, because each error deducts from your Net Speed, candidates are strongly advised to maintain at least 90โ95% accuracy so that mistakes do not pull their net speed below 35 WPM.
